Project summary:

The objectives of the project are to improve the institutional and scientific capacity for sustainable management and use of natural resources in the cross-border region, to create supportive conditions for acquiring knowledge and achievements in the field of environmental research and to establish mechanisms for interaction, coordination and cooperation for sustainable management of natural resources between key stakeholders in the cross-border region.
The main project activities include: equipping and building infrastructure for research centers for Blue Growth at the University "Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov" - Burgas and Thracian University - Edirne, development and implementation of common methodologies and pilot studies of aquatic ecosystems in the regions of Burgas and Edirne, local activities for regional capacity building, including holding international conferences, stakeholder meetings, public events, activities to improve the interaction between the different levels of regional educational ecosystems in support of education and training for Blue Growth.
As a result of the project implementation, Blue Growth Research Centers will be established in the cross-border region and conditions will be created for interaction between scientists, researchers, local institutions and communities to develop common methodologies and models for responsible use of natural resources. The project will build on the existing capacity to study and monitor the ecological status of local ecosystems by providing infrastructure and equipment for scientists and experts on both sides of the border and will contribute to compensating for the lack of data and information on the ecological status of aquatic ecosystems in the target region. . Initiatives related to environmental protection and environmentally responsible behavior of local communities will be developed and implemented.

Project summary:

The project aims to increase the awareness of students, parents and teachers in Bourgas (Bulgaria) and Suloglu (Turkey) for nature protection by sustainable using and management of common natural resources through implementation of joint interactive and educational activities.

Within the project it is envisaged creation of clubs of interests as an interactive and practical tool for improving the capacity in nature protection and sustainable use and management of natural resources of students from both schools. It will be also organized students eco academy and eco tours for students and parents from the cross-border region and creation of joint website for cooperation and sharing best practices and results from the trainings in nature protection and using of natural resources.

During the project implmentation it will be conducted eco photo contest and exhibition of items created by natural crafts. Information campaigns about sustainable using and management of natural resources and nature protection are envisaged from both sides of the border. For the needs of the project both schools will deliver equipment for eco training laboratories.

The implementation of the project will contribute to increasing the level of environmental protection in the cross-border region through formation of “green” conscience among students, which will encourage their motivation to put into practice the acquired skills and experience in the field of nature conservation.

The project partners have implemented the activities according to the schedule.

The main idea of the project was to elaborate an educational programme for clubs of interests in the partnering schools. In the preparatory phase, common problems were identified in both schools which were later addressed with the project. The objective of the project was to improve the capacity of students, parents and teachers in Bourgas and Suloglu in the field of nature protection and sustainable use and management of common natural resources through joint interactive educational and motivational activities.

In implementation of the project the educational programme for clubs of interests “School Eco Academy”, successfully elaborated by experts in the field of education and nature protection with the constant support of the school authorities and teachers, was implemented during the school year. Four clubs were established in each school with participants from 4th and 5th grade in Vasil Levski Primary School, Bulgaria and 4th grade in Suloglu Primary School, Turkey. Various methods were used in the trainings as: games, prize competitions, quizzes, picking up litter in the school yard, walks in the nature, collages with natural materials, etc. Parents also took part in some of the indoor and outdoor trainings. Interactive trainings were implemented due to the IT equipment delivered – interactive boards, laptops, tablets, video and photo camera. Eco training laboratories were equipped in both schools where students did experiments, tested the samples taken during the eco trips, had practical trainings, etc. One-day eco tours were organized for students and parents to different locations in Strandja mountain, including visit to working solar/wind system, in order to observe the plants and animals in their natural habitats. Students were given nature awareness through theory, observation and practical experience in accordance with the Programme.

Informational campaigns were organized in both countries, including press conferences, Trainers’ Open Days, Eco Photo Contest, which showed photos and objects, made during the trainings, as well as the results from the implementation of the programme. These campaigns raised the awareness of the interested parties on how students and parents can be motivated to enhance their knowledge and improve their capacity in nature protection and sustainable use and management of natural resources, as well as the efficiency of the elaborated programme. Due to the interest, it was after disseminated  to few other schools that are going to implement it.

Project summary:

The overall objective of the project is to determine the coordinates of the sea meadows in Igneada and Pomorie bays and make them accessible for everyone via a mobile application, to prevent the extinction of sea meadows because of the wrong fishery methods, to raise awareness among fishermen via giving information about sea meadows.
The project envisages two sea surveys – one in Turkey and one in Bulgaria including scanning of the seacoast and locating the sea meadows. Mobile Application will be developed providing access for everyone to the coordinates of the identified sea meadows. Seminar of Sea ecosystems presenting both surveys results will be presented. At the Alamana Festival a declaration for future cooperation will be signed.
As a result of the implementation of the project, the coordinates of the sea meadows in Igneada and Pomorie bays will be determined and access to them via a mobile application will be made, as well the awareness among fishermen via giving information about sea meadows will be raised. The fish breathing and breeding by protecting their living areas will be enabled.

 

Status of the project: completed

Seagrasses, the basis of marine ecosystems that currently produce 70% of the oxygen in the atmosphere, are endangered due to global warming, pollution and unconscious hunting methods. The main axis of our project is to determine by partners the spread and position of seagrasses on the coasts of Igneada (TR) and Pomorie (BG) so that give contributions to EU “Water Framework Directive”, “Marine Strategy Framework Directive” and “Interreg Ipa CBC BG-TR 2014-2020 Programme” Priority axis 1 “Environment” etc. As a result of sea surveys, maps were produced and determined the locations of seagrasses. Produced with the maps, off-line mobile phone applications published on the market with in trilingual.  Fishermen took a seminar by Academic Consultant on seagrasses and marine ecosystems, both side trainings provided in the seminars contributed to sustainable fisheries. The Festival Meeting developed a dialogue with fishermen of the two countries, visibility ensured with media publications, mobile applications, press-conferences, interviews with project website. Signed declaration at the end of Festival is part of institutional and political sustainability as well, because connects representatives of both cross-border regions on policy level and guarantees future cooperation between them.

Project summary:

The project will tackle the challenges in the area of the capacity and efficiency of preservation of marine and coastal environment in the cross border region of Bulgaria and Turkey by initiating integrated and coordinated approaches to provide protection in cases of spills caused by ships collisions, accidents, marine and coastal pollution from ships, boats and coastal sources.
The activities planned within the project include establishment of a Steering committee and Joint Emergency Squad for marine pollution prevention. Specialized equipment will be delivered such as mobile emergency container, boat and equipment for oil pollution control and spills and litters cleaning and collecting, in accordance with the characteristics of the coast in the region of Burgas and Demirkoy. The preparation of Join Intervention Plan and Standard Operation Procedures is envisaged. An Action Plan and Standard Operating Procedures will be developed as well as joint practical exercises of the established Emergency Squad for marine pollution prevention will be conducted.
The implementation of the project will improve the coordination between the institutions from the cross border region of Bulgaria and Turkey in cases of spills caused by ships collisions, accidents, marine and coastal pollution from ships, boats and coastal sources. Another important project result will be enhancing the environmental knowledge of the fishermen, seamen, local population, and visitors of the region, on the issues related to the protection of the marine and coastal environment from plastic and domestic waste and the pollution in the Black Sea will be reduced.
